Evan Chan, Founder
Evan Chan is a community-driven leader with a passion for bringing people together through shared interests like food, learning, and music. With years of experience in both the restaurant and education sectors, Evan decided to combine his passions by founding The Hungry Student.
By day, Evan is a PhD student and SSHRC Doctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto, as well as a Junior Fellow at Massey College. His research focuses on the intersections of Music Cognition and Machine Learning, though he also maintains a keen interest in Financial Investing and Economics. In addition to his academic work, Evan has co-founded several NGOs in Canada, served on the Board of Directors for various institutions, and was a co-founder of the startup company C Spray.

The Hungry Student was founded in Toronto, Canada, with the goal of meeting the needs of a growing online community of food lovers, students, and small business owners. We celebrate the diverse and vibrant cuisines found across North America, and our vision is to share the multicultural flavors and unique culinary experiences the world has to offer.
At its core, The Hungry Student is a food platform dedicated to providing honest, down-to-earth feedback. Our Food Blog offers genuine restaurant reviews, focusing on local spots across North America. Unlike many “sponsored” food critics, we believe in offering real opinions rather than pushing places that are just “hyped.” We pride ourselves on being an honest voice in a crowded space, giving our readers the truth rather than selling them something it’s not.
